Trump’s lies just keep on coming. His latest falsehood claiming FEMA funding has been reallocated to support illegal immigrants is perhaps the most disgraceful. Trump and his MAGA base will conceive and spread any lie that will help their cause, regardless of who is impacted. Now, countless Americans, trying to sort through the darkest and most desperate time in their lives, are uncertain they will get the help they need to recover from the horrific destruction caused by Hurricane Helene.We’ve come to expect Trump’s blatant fabrications. Gaining an understanding as to why so many go along with him remains elusive. Perhaps the below quote from Hannah Arendt, German historian and philosopher, will offer some insight: "This constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe a lie, but at ensuring that no one believes anything anymore. A people that can no longer distinguish between truth and lies cannot distinguish between right and wrong.And such a people, deprived of the power to think and judge, is, without knowing and willing it, completely subjected to the rule of lies. With such a people, you can do whatever you want."This is what we are up against in this election. Though we may not be able to change the cult mentality here, we can still orchestrate the outcome.
